Ondel-Ondel, Big Doll from Jakarta!
Ondel-ondel is a kind of big doll with people inside. This big doll can walk around some places in Jakarta to celebrate some important events for examples when Jakarta anniversarry (22 June), Independence day (17 August) and other events held in Jakarta. With their bright color of face and clothes, `ondel-ondel` can give good panorama.
`Ondel-ondel` is become a mascot of Jakarta because it`s kind of symbol of Batavias`s people. Batavia or we called `Betawi` people was kind of tribe in Jakarta. They are origin of Jakarta (previous name was Batavia).
The high of `ondel-ondel` is between 2 metres until 2,5 meters with diameters 80 cm. It makes from bamboo plaited for easier to strike it in front the insideof `ondel-ondel` The face of `ondel-ondel` is from mask, with hair make from palm fiber. The male face of `ondel-ondel` paint with red color and female face with white color.
In Pasundan, West java, `ondel-ondel` called as "badawang", in centre of Java called as "Barongan Buncis", and in Bali called as "Barong Landung." The performance of `Ondel-ondel starting from Islam religion spreading to Java Island.
