Located on the equator comprising over 17,000 islands, the Indonesian archipelago lies at the centre of the Coral Triangle that stretches from East Kalimantan north to the Philippines, then south east to the Solomon Islands and back west to the East Nusatenggara islands and Bali. The Indonesian waters have some of the world's richest biodiversity and are the ultimate paradise for divers. Here divers may swim with huge turtles or dugongs, meet with schools of manta ray, or play with dolphins. Bunaken is famed for its spectacular drop-offs, while the Komodo pristine seas are rich in colour and underwater life.

With more than famed 35 dive sites, - from the Anambas in the South China Sea, to Aceh, Karimun Jawa, to Bali, Lombok, Takabone Rate, and Wakatobi in Sulawesi, the beautiful sea gardens of Banda and Ambon in the Moluccas, to the spectacular sights of Raja Ampat in West Papua, - Indonesia promoted these stunning dive site at the prestigious DEMA (Diving, Equipment and Management Association ) Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center in the United States last 17-20 November.

The Indonesian pavilion was participated by 38 dive operators, tour operators and travel agencies, as well as government tourism agencies, and drew a large number of international buyers at a special cocktail party held on the 19th November.

Among the many dive sites, some can be easily reached including those around Bali, the Gili-Gili islands on Lombok, Bunaken islands near Manado in North Sulawesi, or the Thousand Islands near Jakarta. While to reach the more remote destinations and the more pristine sites, it is best to sail on live-aboard ships that are especially fitted for divers. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has mapped out Indonesia’s many dive sites with information on over 400 locations. Information on these can be found at: diving-indonesia.net , - which is also linked to this website.

At DEMA, Indonesia’s Director General for Tourism Marketing, Sapta Nirwandar, signed an agreement with Robert Stoss, President of Scuba School International (SSI), a respected international diving certification institution, for the “Visit Indonesia” logo to be printed on all Certificates issued by SSI in Indonesia, reported Media Indonesia.
